Worst 5 streets - January 2008

StreetAdvisor recently published a list of the 10 best streets and reviews for January 2008. Here's another list - this time of some streets that did not make it into the top 10. In fact, they are at the bottom of the ratings. This is not necessarily because of their numerical score (which is something different community members value in different ways) but because of extraordinary local conditions. Here are some excerpts from reviews of these streets.

Car

At S Huron River Drive, South Rockwood, Michigan, United States (StreetScore 19.59) runaway says:

"noise from the freeway that runs right through the center of this town is bad all year and in the summer a near by race track can be heard on week nights till 12am and longer. the planes from the near by airport have a holding pattern over head so their is never a truly quiet sky. the road is in such bad shape to the west of my house that it is called "beruit blvd" by most locals."

At  Wyman Way Uppr MARLBORO, Upper Marlboro, Maryland, United States (StreetScore 44.27) Micheka says:

"I would not live here, except for the fact that the house we are renting is far better than our other choices in Prince George's County. Not to say that it is good. We have carpenter ant damage all through the house (they are currently tearing apart the deck). The worst part here is the schools. If I was raising kids here I would definitely send them to private schools!!! No matter what the costs!!!! Our nearest high school, had an incident last year where a student almost beat a teacher to death. In my job I work with kids in the community, and some of their stories defy belief."

At Oriole Place, Ingleburn, New South Wales, Australia (StreetScore 34.65) darm says:

"Christmas lights, plants get stolen. Very noisy young teens vandalise, breaking windows and damaging property. Have also found used syringes and smashed bottles on road and lawn. I strongly don't recommend this for young families."

At 10th Avenue, Arlington Heights, Illinois, United States (StreetScore 26.43) dmschaeffer says

"it's a trailer park. i lived there when i was a kid but my mother still resides there. it used to be nicer but with new owners it's really gone down hill. There is a problem with racoons and possums. They sometimes get under the trailers."

At W 35th Street, New York, New York, United States (StreetScore 18.00) rickyrade says:

"All potential renters or buyers, beware – do not buy or rent in this area… It’s grubby, dirty, noisy and lacks any real charm prevalent in other parts of Manhattan. It’s also full of awful food chains and discount outlet stores. The sort of place where if you look hard enough you’ll find a used mattress for $15. You have been warned."
